One of the largest oyster hatcheries on the east coast, the 70’ x 300’ concrete pier along the Choptank River allows UMCES’s research vessels to dock and load oysters for transportation to sites in the Chesapeake Bay. The pier serves as a foundation for 52 tanks for oyster cultivation, Mechanical and Lab Buildings. The Mechanical Building houses pumps, heaters, filters, and water treatment. The Lab Building houses a Wet Lab, Work Area, Storage, and Restrooms.
