Maryland Masonic Homes is a historic continuing care retirement community for Masons, perched atop one of the highest points in Baltimore County it has a commanding view of the land below. Bonnie Blink was comprised of grand stone structures and sculptured grounds, in their expansion of the community AHSa was tasked with more than doubling the independent living units and adding a “state of the art” wellness center and parking garage, while not disrupting the ambiance of the existing community.

Taking advantage of the topography, AHSa designed the lower level of the new apartment building as a parking garage with extra-wide lanes and parking spaces to accommodate the senior driver. Above, on the main entry level, is a grand hall which is framed by the new apartment units and a wraparound balcony. The form and façade of the new building seamlessly blends in with the original structures and took the independent living units from 34 to 80.
